Definitions of Whiplash

Also known as acceleration-deceleration injuries and hyper-flexion-hyper-extension injuries

• Injuries associated with rapid, sudden movement of the cranium relative to the body

• A combination of injuries involving the cervical muscles, ligaments, fascia, inter-vertebral discs, facets, nerves and blood vessels

• Injuries usually involve the thoracic and lumbar spinal regions

Signs And Symptoms Of Whiplash And Neck Injuries

• Signs and symptoms can occur hours, days or several months after the injury

• Inflammation

• Myofascial trigger points

• Apprehension and guarding when moving the neck

• Facet syndrome and swelling

• Loss of range of motion to the cervical spine

• Torticollis – Wry neck
