Yoga Training CertificationONE Yoga and Wellness. The center for yoga training certification. ONE was born of Ellen Shaeffer's dream to teach yoga in her home community of Foster, Rhode Island. Shortly after the death of her mother in 1996, Ellen advertised a free introductory class in a local classified paper and forty people miraculously appeared.
Only twenty-two were actually pre-registered for the class!Ellen felt as if her mother were close by orchestrating the entire process. Three classes were born from this initial group. It felt like time for expansion in the spring of the following year... it was then that arrangements were made to renovate and rent the space which is 's current home. A grand opening celebration was held on September 12, 1997. It was a crowded and joy-filled affair.
During the process of moving, Ellen decided to name the center. The name and the visual image for the logo came to her in a meditation following her yoga practice. She describes an experience where she felt herself as being contained within the universe and being larger than the universe in the same moment. Ellen states that in that moment she knew beyond a doubt that we are all -- a beautiful personal understanding of the interconnectedness of all of life. The studio is an 8'th of a mile beyond Rt. 94 on the right hand side. It is at the top of the hill in a small plaza called the Foster Market Place. If you reach Shady Acres Restaurant you have traveled too far. From Connecticut and points west... Follow Rt. 6 into Rhode Island, towards Providence. Watch for the following land marks: Pass a Citgo gas station on your left, pass Shady Acres Restaurant on the left. Shortly after Gabriele's Package Store which is on the right, take a left into the Foster Market Place. The studio is in this Plaza. If you reach Rt. 94 you have traveled too far.
